Dr. Robert C. Worstell and
the Go Thunk Yourself(TM) series.
Who is Dr. Robert C. Worstell?
Dr. Worstell was raised in the Midwestern US, on a small farm several hours from any major city. Early on, he caught the bug of unanswered questions. While farming made sense, schooling didn't. Artwork was simple to create, but opinions about what made “good art” varied. Studies in religion came butt up against dogmas and a myriad of interpretations. Although he was persuaded to finish high school, two days after graduating, he had left his home for a job in another state – which lead to another job and so on, until he wound up in California. He held various positions, learning various crafts and skills, but he was chiefly a counselor and consultant during this time. He returned to the Midwestern US late in life, tired of the “plastic world” he found in California. Late in life, he turned to college for answers. While getting his degrees in marketing, computer systems, and comparative religions, Worstell continued searching for answers. During his graduate and post-graduate work, he completed a six-year study into the basics of self-help. The result is the Go Thunk YourselfTM series.
Why should I care?
You may want to improve yourself, make your life better. If your life is perfect, you don't have to read any further. But if you feel there is something to be bettered, then you'll want to find out everything you can on the subject. Dr. Worstell's books are not for the casual reader, but for those who seriously want to change something in their lives, or the world around them.
Why the title Go Thunk Yourself?
Because it's easy to say and tells the person do something with their life, not just accept the world they live in. If someone around you is acting a bit irrational or doing something non-sensical, you can simply tell them to “Go Thunk Yourself” (instead of saying something perhaps less polite).
What's in it for me?
Are you rich enough to suit your tastes, able to buy anything you want? Are you happy with everything and everyone around you? Do you feel you are a success and have attained all the goals you've ever set for yourself?
If yes, then why are you still reading this?
If not, there is something to improve.
But you only get out what you put in.
What's in this book?
A simple 14-day program anyone can use to improve anything in their life that needs it. It's based on the common system that all self-help authors write about. Read the short chapters, do the exercises daily, and you'll be on your way to making your dreams into reality around you.
What is this “common system”?
There are underlying laws to improvement, just like gravity or electricity have underlying laws. If you know that there are laws and what these laws are, you can use them to change just about everything in your life. These laws aren't taught in schools. But authors like Steven Covey (7 Habits of Highly Effective People), Napoleon Hill (Think and Grow Rich), Wallace Wattles (The Science of Getting Rich), James Allen (As a Man Thinketh), Charles F. Haanel (The Master Key System), Joe Vitale (Spiritual Marketing) – all these authors discovered these natural laws, and became rich and successful by applying them to their own lives. If they can learn these laws, you can too. Dr. Worstell detailed how to do it in his books and blogs.
Why does he blog so much?
Because Dr. Worstell wants your feedback directly on these books. He took a risk and published each book as a blog as well as a book, so you can “try before you buy.” But the whole point is to get your input. If there is an error in the book, I want you to find it and tell me about it. If you have a success, post it here for others to become inspired from. If you have a new technique or a link that could improve this book, post it. Leave your comments and be part of this success.
How can you claim that “all self-help authors are writing the same story”?
Because they do – it's the conclusion of the study Dr. Worstell spent years researching. He doesn't claim that one author is better than another, but rather that they each have their own unique view of the world and some appeal to others more than another would. Several books have very good publicists and are more widely available. However, there are some classics which published all these laws, some nearly a hundred years ago.
Then why should I read your book?
Go Thunk Yourself outlines the basic system which all these authors use, so you can make up your own mind which way you want to go. This book tells you to read other authors and do your own studies thoroughly. There are no magic pills or secret recipes for success. Anyone who has made it will tell you that it is a lot of hard work. And you only get out what you put in. But the returns for those who use these laws get far more out than expected, but everything that they ever really wanted. Go Thunk Yourself tells you what the path is – it's up to you to walk it.
Does this mean I have to change my religion?
No. You may find that some or all of your beliefs are based on these underlying laws. Factually, most all of these are found somewhere in the texts of every major religion on the planet. Jesus of Nazereth, for instance, explained these same underlying laws in his parables during those few recorded years of his life. But Go Thunk Yourself isn't based on any religion, nor does it prescribe any particular religious doctrine or dogma or set of beliefs. This book is simply an introduction to improving yourself.
But isn't your work based on religious principles?
It's more that all of humankind's successes are based on the life principles discovered in Go Thunk Yourself. Religious or not, where any organization on this earth is succeeding, that group is based on and follows these principles, knowingly or not. But this book is really designed to help individuals achieve their personal success. You can learn the Laws of success and apply them to your own life.
Aren't you being a bit presumptuous to claim such grand statements?
Read the book and find out for yourself. Dr. Worstell included his research thesis in the book as an added feature so you can have the underlying research for your own use. But don't take his word for it. Go to his blogs and check out what he has to say. If you disagree, leave a comment – or several. He's asked for feedback – it's up to you to give it to him.
